when kids get life
I may have to stop watching Frontline, lest I be driven to patronize Eli Lilly. If you have a high tolerance for the depressing you should watch this episode:
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/whenkidsgetlife/view/
It's funny there was a ballot prop in CA a number of years back that gave prosecutors the independent power to try children as adults. I voted that year specifically to vote against that proposition. It passed 66 to 33 % (of course).
Another interesting thing is my continued belief that parenticide should not be punished as harshly as a normal murder (I mean, jeesh, if someone is going to kill someone, I'd think that their parents are probably, ipso facto, deserving).

Those Crazy Germans
I used to argue that Fascism ala Germany or China's Cultural revolution, was something which could happen just about anywhere, given not so unlikely changes in the culture/political climate.
Now, though, I think I may be coming around to the (nice and racist) idea that, in fact, Germans - like Walt Disney and Mayor Quimby's nephew - simply have the evil gene....

2 quotes if you don't want to read the whole thing:
"a court in the Westphalian county of GΓΒΌtersloh sentenced a couple to imprisonent, six days for the mother followed by six days for the father, because the parents had refused to let their children attend a Christmas school play"
"politician Ute SchΓΒ€fer ... stated that the obligation to attend a government approved school follows from the Γ’β¬Εright of a child to free education and maturation.Γ’β¬Β "

watch _stupid in america_
John stossel doesn't exactly inspire confidence for some reason I can't quite put my finger on (Maybe it is his tv-magazine tendency to make statements I know he can't back up, or maybe it is just the mustache), but when you are right, you are right....

WTO tells US to stop stealing my 30 bucks and giving it to Cotton Farming Corporations
O.k. Not exactly, but close:
http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp_world_business/view/82132/1/.html
The WTO ruled that the US cotton subsidies encouraged over-production and "dumping".
For a back story see below
It is amusing that John Birchers and other conservative anti-(world)-government and anti-tax-and-spend types like me owe a debt of thanks to the WTO for at least TRYING (the US will probably appeal) to stop one of the more egregious wastes of U.S. taxpayer money. As does the rest of the world.
If you haven't read
my original post below already you really should.

Arguably the single biggest waste of taxpayer money is farm subsidies. These subsidies enumerated in the much discussed "farm bill" amount to ~100 Billion dollars.

I'm o.k. with the Lust.
And i can't exactly cast the first stone as far as avarice goes, but, I've still got some puritanism in me, i'm afraid and it bothers me when someone runs a bank into the ground at taxpayer expense and gets 2 million for, what exactly? (no really, someone tell me.)

I was recently reading in slate (http://www.slate.com) some moron saying that there are "strong arguments on each side" of the issue of whether or not the right to keep and bear arms is an individual or a collective right.

Asscroft at it again.
Asscroft is evidently against a person's right to kill himself.
And, like all Federal Do-gooders with no respect for individuals or the
legislative choices of Individual States, he thinks he should
intervene and prosecute/jail those that are obeying their own local
laws and conscience.
Much like "Judicial Activism", this is exactly the type of thing that gets
conservatives riled, but only when they disagree with the nature of the
interference/activism, not when they agree...

Perhaps the American Civil Liberties Union wouldn't have such a bad
